A single documentary, or an episode from a strand or a series exploring environmental issues or that has made a contribution to the climate change debate. The category is also open to documentaries that have been produced in an environmentally friendly way and adhere to the Green Code Guidelines.

Documentaries that explore environmental issues or that have made a contribution to the climate change debate are eligible for this category,as are those that have been produced in an environmentally friendly way and adhere to the Green Code Guidelines. Does your film or production house attempt to abide by environmentally friendly, sustainable, or eco-ethical practices, as you yourself define them, in your production office as well as on location? |

Did you attempt to reduce all environmental impact at every stage of production from conception through distribution? |

Did you attempt to outsource necessary goods and services from local businesses and green-friendly suppliers? |

Carbon offsetting is not an effective solution to climate change, and is sometimes only a band-aid greenwash solution, but in those "last resort" cases where carbon offsetting is used (for example to offset an unavoidable flight) does your film or production house offset its carbon impact and CO2 greenhouse gas emissions, with a reputable gold standard organisation? |

A documentary that exhibits innovation in format, style, technique or content. The award is open to all forms of documentary – long form theatrical, one hour TV doc, projects delivered online or across multiple platforms. Documentaries in this category will demonstrate an outstanding and brave approach to production and/or subject.

Open only to films selected for the 2008 Sheffield Doc/Fest programme and the shortlist will be chosen by the festival programmer. The award will be given to the film that is most engaging for young audiences and will be chosen by a jury of young people and chaired by a member of The Grierson Trust.
• All entries for the Grierson:Sheffield Youth Jury Award must have been accepted for the 2008 Sheffield Doc/Fest.
