Grierson DocLab 2017

Grierson Trust DocLab, in partnership with Bertha DocHouse

As well as celebrating established professionals working in the documentary genre, The Grierson Trust supports and champions aspiring documentary filmmakers. Through its new entrant training scheme, Grierson DocLab in partnership with Bertha DocHouse, it provides young people aged 18-25 the chance of a comprehensive training programme to help them transition into a documentary career.

Trainees get to join an ever growing network of alumni whom they can connect with, as well as having the opportunity to work with some the UK’s leading production companies on paid placements who this year include Century Films, Dragonfly, Lightbox, Renegade Pictures, Pulse, Testimony Films, True North, True Vision and Wall and Wall, with additional support once again from Blueberry Media Consultants.

The Grierson DocLab offers participants a chance to meet with like-minded young people who want to work in factual programme making. Through the course of the programme they learn about the genre and the industry. Participants take part in a 4-day residential course with award-winning industry professionals; attend and network with the industry at the internationally recognised Sheffield Doc/Fest; access a paid placement with a production company; and, are matched with an industry mentor. By the end of the programme we expect trainees to feel job ready and confident about working in the sector.

The Trust also provides ongoing bespoke support to trainees as they progress with their career choice.
