Talking to History
Laurence Rees and the Ethics of the Eyewitness Account
Award-winning filmmaker Laurence Rees has spent nearly 20 years filming people who were tested to the extreme in WW2, and has come face to face with both mass murderers and people of inspirational courage. Now in discussion with Wolfson prize-winning historian Richard Overy, and with the help of unique film footage, Rees talks about the extraordinary interviews he has conducted, the ethical issues involved, the methods he has used in making such series as Nazis: A Warning from History and Auschwitz: The Nazis and the ‘Final Solution’, and considers the value of his work to the wider world of history.
The event is chaired by author and columnist Simon Jenkins.
