  • Mark Boyd Joins the Board of The Grierson Trust

The Grierson Trust – guardians of the British Documentary Awards – announced a further new appointment today as Mark Boyd joins the Board of Trustees, chaired by Dawn Airey.

Dawn Airey said: "I am delighted that the wonderful Mark Boyd has agreed to join the Board. His insight into branding and new business models for creative organizations is legendary. The Grierson Trust will benefit enormously from his experience, vision and passion for documentary."

Mark is co-founder of new creative company, Gravity Road, alongside partner Mark Eaves. Gravity Road seeks to be clever with content, creating IP as well as working with advertisers and media owners. Previously he was Creative Director and Head of Content at advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) and a Partner of BBH London.

Mark has worked across the different stakeholders in media and entertainment business. This breadth has allowed him to pioneer new content opportunities for brands beyond traditional advertising. These have included projects as diverse as games, books and social networks through to TV programmes and channels like The Audi Channel. These projects ran internationally. Mark has innovated with new ideas, new ways of working and particularly new business models. He has worked recently on clients such as Unilever, Diageo, Audi, Barclays, Britivic, Vodafone and others. He is recognised as a though leader in the content space and speaks on a range of platforms around the world. He was founder of the Branded Content Marketing Association.

Mark will serve his three year tenures alongside fellow Trustees Emma Hindley, Charlotte Moore, Terry Back, John Battsek, Emily Bell, Mandy Chang, Simon Dickson, George Duffield, Jill Franklin, James Hunt, Chris Harris and Christopher Hird.

The Grierson Trust exists to promote the best in documentary filmmaking. Established to commemorate the work of pioneering Scottish film maker John Grierson (1898–1972), the man widely regarded as the father of the documentary, the Trust both spearheads educational and mentoring initiatives for aspiring filmmakers through its educational programme, and celebrates the best documentary filmmaking from Britain and abroad through the annual British Documentary Awards.

The annual Grierson Awards recognise outstanding films that demonstrate integrity, originality and technical excellence, and social or cultural significance. The list of past winners – which includes Norma Percy, Molly Dineen, Olivia Lichtenstein, Nick Broomfield, Kim Longinotto, Paul Watson, Angus Macqueen and Pawel Pawlikowski - is testament to the high standard of work which is celebrated through these awards. They are the ultimate UK prizes for documentary film makers from across the globe.
