  • Mariella Frostrup to host Grierson 2011

The Grierson Trust is proud to announce that the celebrated broadcaster and cultural commentator Mariella Frostrup will host Grierson 2011: The British Documentary Awards in association with Sky Arts HD and Honda. The star-studded ceremony at BFI Southbank will crown the nation’s most illustrious documentary film makers in the 39th annual Grierson Awards on Tuesday 1st November.

Mariella Frostrup has firmly established herself as one of the nation’s most respected journalists and TV presenters. She currently presents The Book Show for Sky Arts and Open Book for Radio Four. Other recent projects include BBC1’s The Young Ones challenging common perceptions about aging; BBC Radio Four’s Bringing Up Britain which explored the challenges of modern parenting; and, BBC Radio 2’s Blonde On Blonde looking at the lives of blonde Hollywood icons. Mariella is also a respected arts critic and has sat on the judging panels of various awards including The Booker Prize, the Orange Prize for Fiction, the Evening Standard Film Awards, the Turner Prize, the Amnesty International Media Awards, the London Film Festival and the RIBA Stirling Prize Awards. She was also one of the Grierson Award judges of this year’s Sky Arts Best Student Documentary.

The most prestigious awards in the documentary world, the Griersons will also transmit on Sky Arts in an all new way. Shown throughout the month of November, each award category will be made into its own mini-doc complete with extracts from the winning films and interviews with those involved in both the creation and the judging of its merits. The series of 11 shorts will then be shown as interstitials spread across the Sky Arts HD schedule for the month.
