DFG are calling for entries to The DFG Pitch
Are you an emerging documentary filmmaker who’s looking to take their idea to the next stage with development funding?
This is a fantastic opportunity for six emerging filmmakers to get the chance to pitch their ideas for development funding in front of an industry panel during DFG Day at Sheffield Doc/Fest 2011.
We know how hard it is for documentary filmmakers to get their idea off the ground. Broadcasters and funders nearly always require some kind of taster tape or teaser these days along with a whole host of questions regarding budget, access, legal issues and a fully worked up concept.
However, to get development funding to achieve this is exceptionally rare. DFG is now offering the chance for filmmakers to receive a full development package of up to £10k (including cash).
What we are looking for:
We’re after diverse, original and engaging single story documentary ideas that could be realised into a film up to 90 minutes in length. This development package is aimed at the UK documentary market, so try to think about some of the single documentary slots on UK television, which may - but not necessarily - include, Channel 4’s First Cut, Cutting Edge, True Stories, or BBC’s Wonderland and Storyville, or some of the BBC3’s single documentary strands. All content ideas, potential production requirements and applicants must be UK based.
Finalists will pitch their ideas live on stage to a panel of industry professionals including top commissioners, exec producers as well as to DFG and The Grierson Trust. Final decisions will be based on not only the originality and strength of the idea, but also on the degree to which development funding of this nature will increase the project’s chances for further funding and/or commissioning.
The funding will provide the winner with the following:
- Cash of up to £2,000
- Camera and sound equipment
- Editor for taster
- Editing suite for off-line edit
- Music for taster
- Mentoring, including guidance on treatment, budget, edit, shooting etc
- Legal advice (where appropriate)
How to Apply:
Submit a ONE page proposal and supporting CV to DFG by email to submissions@thedfg.org by Wed 18th May 2011.
Remember we want strong single documentary ideas and evidence that your idea can be realised on UK television.
This pertains to documentary strands, and NOT specialist factual, factual entertainment, formats or series.
We want to hear from filmmakers with a clear and demonstrable passion for television documentary whatever your previous experience. The finalist's development period will begin in June 2011.
Finalists must be attending Sheffield Doc/Fest or DFG Day on Thurs 9th May, and will be notified by Friday 20th May 2011. Individual pitches will last up to 5 minutes with images only (no tasters), followed by feedback and questions from the panel.
