The Grierson DocLab: New partnership deal with Bertha DocHouse
The Grierson Trust has teamed up with Bertha DocHouse to support the Trust's ground-breaking mentoring and training programme, The Grierson DocLab.
The two year deal, funded by the Bertha Foundation, will ensure that the Trust can continue to support its participants as they gain their first foothold in the industry - from learning basic camera skills to paid work placements at some of the UK's leading independent production companies. With the ambition to turn their passion for filmmaking into a reality, 12 aspiring filmmakers join the scheme each year, selected from the multitude who apply.
Bertha DocHouse's support will expand the training offer with additional workshops, events and masterclasses. The first event takes place on Monday 26th September when the DocLabbers will be given a crash course in how to get that vital first job with contributions from industry experts at Pulse Films and Raw TV as well as talent agency Blueberry Creative. This follows time spent in the training room learning about the craft of documentary storytelling, a visit to Sheffield Doc/Fest, first production placements and regular mentoring.
Lorraine Heggessey said: "Bertha DocHouse's vital funding will ensure that we can continue to nurture and support new voices in the documentary industry. DocLab is a unique opportunity for us to discover and develop talented young filmmakers from the broadest range of backgrounds from across the UK, across ethnic groups and across socio-economic groups ensuring they get the chance to become the documentary makers of the future."
Bertha DocHouse Director, Elizabeth Wood, added: "One of Bertha DocHouse's key missions is to support new generations of filmmakers and educate young filmmaking talent. The Grierson DocLab plays a major role in achieving this and we are delighted to be supporting the scheme."
Established in 2012, The Grierson DocLab provides a vital first step into the industry for aspiring filmmakers ages 18 - 25yrs. DocLab also receives support from Century Films, Lightbox, Minnow Films, Pulse Films, Raw TV, Renegade Pictures, The Garden, True North, True Vision, Voltage TV and Wall to Wall as well as Blueberry Media Consultants.
Bertha DocHouse also continue to sponsor the Best Cinema category at the annual Griersons which take place this year on Monday 7th November, hosted by Jon Culshaw.
